Due to extenuating circumstances, we have changed the date of the Annual Summit.
We hope you will join us at the University of Charleston as we present “Tomorrow and Beyond, Optimizing Geriatric Quality of Life.”
A one-day educational summit exploring new and intriguing ideas, policy changes, philosophies and practice for those involved in or interested in the care and well-being of older adults FEATURING West Virginia’s own Dr. Mark Newbrough.
Dr. Newbrough is a native of St. Albans, WV. He received a degree in Biology from the University of Virginia and went on to attend West Virginia University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. During his 21 years of practice in WV, he focused on the care of older adults in a variety of setting. He also became a statewide leader for geriatrics and health professional training and education. He was also an enthusiastic member of the WV Geriatric Society. In 2012 he left WV and joined the faculty at UVA to become the medical director for a new PACE program and also served as the section head for Geriatrics
Dr. Newbrough is currently the Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at the Medical University of South Carolina in the other Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina.
Mark is passionate about ensuring that his patients receive medical care that is appropriate for their condition but that is also in line with their values and wishes. He says “ I just love taking care of older folks. I enjoy learning about them and what they have accomplished over the course of their lives. I love learning about what’s important to them and then helping to solve their medical issues.”
Dr. Newbrough will be presenting on an Age-Friendly Health System – one in which every older adult’s care is guided by an essential set of evidence-based practices. He will share these practices along with strategies on how to begin the Age-Friendly Health System work in our own health care systems. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Newbrough back home!
Other exciting presentations will include presentations on “Age is Not a Condom, HIV and STD’s over 65”, “Move it or Lose It To Maximize Ability and Function” and “Medication misuse issues in older adults”
